Learn geography like a superstar.

Staring at a list of capitals doesn't really work. Here you answer a question and the map shows you where the place is, so the name sticks to an actual spot.

How many of these can you get?

Three questions, each one a different type from the app. You don't have to sign up and nothing gets saved. It's just so you can see what it's like.

  • 1Name the capital of a country
  • 2Name the country that goes with a capital
  • 3Name a country from its shape (in the app it gets shaded on the map)
Question 1 of 3
Four ways to study

Use whichever mode you feel like.

They all save to the same progress. So if you keep missing Burkina Faso in flashcards, Learn mode knows about it too and will bring it up more often.

Learn

Answer a question and find out right away if you got it. The map zooms to the country either way, so you still see where it is when you get it wrong.

  • Your weakest countries come up first
  • Multiple choice or type it in
  • Streak bonus, up to ร—3
  • Notes on the confusing capitals

Practice test

Choose how many questions, which regions, and whether there's a timer. Flag anything you want to come back to. You get a full report when you're done.

  • 10, 20, 40 or 75 questions
  • Optional timer and exam mode
  • Flag questions for later
  • Results by region and question type

Class quiz

Like the paper map quizzes from school. A country gets shaded, you click it, and then write its name and capital from memory.

  • Two marks per question
  • No multiple choice
  • Small spelling mistakes are OK
  • You get a marked paper at the end

Flashcards

Country on one side, capital on the other. Rate how well you knew each card, and the ones you struggled with come back before the deck is over.

  • Country to capital, or the other way
  • Again, Hard, Good or Easy
  • The back shows where it is
  • Decks of 10 to 100 cards
What's in it

Every UN country, plus the places that keep showing up on quizzes.

The UN has 193 member states and 2 observer states, and all of them are in here. We also added 18 territories people get asked about a lot, like Greenland and Hong Kong, which brings it to 213. If you only want the official UN list, you can switch to that.

  • 193 UN member statesEach one with its official capital.
  • 2 observer statesVatican City and Palestine.
  • 18 territoriesTaiwan, Kosovo, Greenland, Puerto Rico, Hong Kong and a few others.
  • Notes on the tricky onesSome capitals aren't simple. Bolivia has two and South Africa has three, so those come with a short note and any of the right answers counts.

Inside the app

Here's what it looks like.

Questions on the left and a real map on the right. You get a report after every test, and the flashcards show you where each place is when you flip them.

How it works

The basic idea

01

Choose what to study

One continent, only the UN members, or all 213. You can also pick out your own list of countries.

02

Answer questions

Name the capital, name the country, find it on the map, or say which country is shaded.

03

Watch the map

After every answer the country gets shaded and the map moves to it. It helps more than you'd expect.

04

Test yourself

When you feel ready, take a practice test. The report tells you what you still need to work on.

Rewards

You earn stuff for getting answers right.

Every correct answer gives you XP and diamonds. Keep a streak going and you get more, up to 3x once you're at 25 in a row. You can spend diamonds on avatars, avatar decorations, profile effects, nameplates, banners and color themes.

  • XP and levelsYou level up as you play, sometimes right in the middle of a session.
  • DiamondsYou get them for answers, finished tests and achievements, and spend them in Customization.
  • Streaks and daily goalsHit your daily goal and you get bonus diamonds.
  • 10 achievementsEach one pays out diamonds when you unlock it.

For teachers

Geo Classroom runs the teaching side.

Your class gets one short code. Students type it once and every assignment you set shows up on their home screen, with their scores going straight into your gradebook. It's free, and there is a whole page explaining how it works.
